July 29, 2024 - Today, Mayor Sharon Tucker, the City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division, and developer James Khan held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of the Villages of Arneo, a $180 million mixed-use project located along North Clinton Street, between Brooks and Wallen roads.

In May 2023, the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission entered into an agreement with Khan to fund a portion of the public infrastructure improvements to be constructed within the project and along North Clinton.

James Khan is a local developer and Fort Wayne restaurateur known for his downtown establishments the Hoppy Gnome and Proximo, as well as Baker Street on North Clinton near Coliseum Boulevard.

“As we work to provide an enhanced quality of life for all residents in Fort Wayne, the Arneo mixed-use development will be a unique offering that positions our community for future growth and success,” said Mayor Tucker. “This project exemplifies the importance of entrepreneurship and having local business leaders being willing to make meaningful investments that will have a lasting impact.”

The development will encompass 240,000 square feet of mixed-use residential and commercial space. Multi-story buildings within Arneo Village will include ground-floor amenities such as sit-down restaurants, coffee shop, lifestyle fitness center, mini market, and pickleball courts.

The new development will feature 240 apartments, 60 villa/townhomes, and 80,000 square feet of commercial and retail space. It will offer 2.5 miles of walking trails winding through 35 acres of woods adjacent to the St. Joseph River, as well as two miles of cart paths that traverse retention ponds and woodlands. These paths will connect to a dog park, community park, and a commercial town square.

“We are excited to see this unique offering come to Fort Wayne,” said Jonathan Leist, Community Development Director. “The Villages of Arneo promote walkability in a suburban context, and the project is a model for more sustainable infill development moving forward.”
