The City of Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne Trails have announced a public open-house to present the concept for the Vann Family Crossing pedestrian bridge, which will be constructed over Coliseum Boulevard/State Road 930. Construction is slated to begin in 2026, contingent on securing additional funding. The City is currently applying for a U.S. Department of Transportation Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program grant, with community engagement being a critical component of this federal grant.
In addition to the bridge, plans for the Pufferbelly Trail extension from Ice Way to Washington Center Road will also be showcased. The 1.7-mile extension project is scheduled to commence in August and aims for completion by fall 2025. This extension forms part of the larger 81-mile Poka-Bache Connector trail, stretching from Pokagon State Park in Angola to Ouabache State Park in Bluffton.
The open-house event will start at 6:30 p.m., followed by a formal presentation at 6:45 p.m., and conclude by 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7 at Roller Dome North, located at 444 West Coliseum Blvd.
An ASL interpreter will be available for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals. For additional special accommodations, attendees are advised to contact Dawn Ritchie at 260-427-6002 or via email by August 1, 2024.
