In April 2023, Mars Petcare’s BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program awarded Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control (FWACC) a $20,000 grant aimed at making the city more animal-friendly and reducing animal bites. The grant funded a four-session workshop designed to educate the community on understanding pet behavior and body language.

The educational materials and videos produced by FWACC will be included in Mars Petcare’s BETTER CITIES FOR PETS toolkit, which is distributed to shelters nationwide. This inclusion aligns with FWACC's mission to serve the community in a humane capacity while ensuring pets remain with loving families.

“When we created the program, it was our goal to reduce the number of bites that often occur because signals were missed or misread. I am proud our team continues to do all they can to provide the community with the resources and education to help families keep their pets. It is an honor to be part of the BETTER CITIES toolkit and share with others what Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control does,” said Director Amy-Jo Sites.

“Animal Care and Control is committed to providing excellent services and care for animals and owners of animals,” said Mayor Sharon Tucker. “We’re honored to receive national recognition and a much-needed grant for the work that’s being done locally each day. I want to thank the leadership and staff at FWACC. By working together we’re keeping our community safer and better educated on the importance of caring for pets.”
