Today, Senator-elect Jim Banks appeared on CNN's Inside Politics with Dana Bash to discuss President Trump's forthcoming legislative agenda. The conversation centered around the topic of deporting undocumented immigrants.
In a recent interview with the IndyStar, Banks stated, "We're going to begin the process of deporting the over 15 million illegals that have come into this country under Joe Biden's watch." During his discussion with Bash, he elaborated on this statement, expressing his hope to deport as many undocumented immigrants as possible. He emphasized starting with those who have committed violent crimes and increasing penalties for businesses hiring undocumented workers.
Banks conveyed confidence in having enough support in Congress to fund and back mass deportation efforts. He stated, "The American people spoke loud and clear on Tuesday. They gave this president and Republicans a mandate to do everything that we can."
When asked about the practicality of such an undertaking, Banks acknowledged potential costs but stressed its importance: "President Trump said yesterday that it could be costly, but the American people deserve it—to do everything that we can to return sanity back to this country."
He also mentioned local law enforcement's readiness to assist in these efforts, citing a conversation with a sheriff in Indiana.
