Banks, who succeeded Marlin Stutzman in Congress, previously served in the Indiana Senate from 2010 to 2016.

On January 25, 2025, Banks announced his vote to confirm Kristi Noem as President Trump's Homeland Security Secretary. He emphasized the urgency of assembling a complete cabinet for President Trump by stating, "I just voted to confirm @KristiNoem as President Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary. We must get President Trump a full cabinet ASAP!"

Two days later, on January 27, Banks shared another update regarding his vote to confirm Scott Bessent as Treasury Secretary under President Trump. He noted Bessent's role in implementing tax cuts for American workers and mentioned an upcoming confirmation for Sean Duffy. Banks tweeted, "I just voted to confirm Scott Bessent as President Trump’s Treasury Secretary. He will play an important role in delivering President Trump’s promise to cut taxes for American workers."

On January 28, Banks highlighted his meeting with General Randy George, Chief of Staff of the Army. During this meeting, they discussed strategies to strengthen the Army and noted a positive trend in recruitment following Election Day after years of decline. Reflecting on his family history with military service, Banks expressed satisfaction with these developments by tweeting, "Both of my grandfathers served in the US Army. Glad to meet with the Chief of Staff of the Army General Randy George to hear his vision to make our Army stronger."
