WELLS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY: The Dutch House by Ann Patchett

Book coffee

Wells County Public Library issued the following announcement on Mar 2.

Cyril Conroy has worked hard to build up his real estate business and he is finally able to bring his family up from poverty to enormous wealth. He decides to celebrate and surprises his wife with the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant to be their symbol of a fresh start, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves.

I do not typically read adult fiction myself, but I couldn’t help but be drawn in by this amazing cover and the fascinating blurb on the back. I just knew that “The Dutch House” was going to be something special. I enjoyed getting to read about Danny’s life and I found myself falling for his and Maeve’s personalities; they are funny at just the right moments and serious when they need to be. The mystery behind who exactly their parents were drives this story to the very end. One could say that it is a mystery without the exaggerated drama. All in all, it was an easy and worthy read.

The best part is that you can listen to Tom Hanks read to you if you check out the audiobook!
