Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control Receives $35,000 Grant from Petco Love

FORT WAYNE ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL RECEIVES $35,000 GRANT FROM PETCO LOVE

Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control is set to receive a $35,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love during a special celebration at Petco at 315 E. Coliseum Boulevard on July 7, 2022, at 11 a.m. in support of their lifesaving work for animals in Fort Wayne.

Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier.

Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $330 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts.

And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with 6.5 million pets adopted and counting.

“Our investment in Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control is part of more than $15M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We recently celebrated the one-year launch anniversary of Petco Love Lost, a national lost and found database that uses pet facial recognition technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”

“We are so grateful for Petco Love’s support to help us continue to expand our lifesaving programs. Since the pandemic, we have seen a steady increase in the number of cats and kittens coming into our shelter. With our current staffing level, it’s difficult to keep up with the care they need to go into our adoption program. This grant will allow us to hire contracted veterinarians to better serve our community, save more lives and reduce pet overpopulation,” said Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control Director Amy-Jo Sites.

1,551 animals -mostly kittens- went through the foster program in 2021. Before an animal can be adopted it must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. The shelter currently has one full-time veterinarian, one full-time vet tech, and one part-time vet tech to provide medical care. When funds allow, a contracted veterinarian is brought in to assist the medical team. It is our goal to continue to grow lifesaving programs so no healthy adoptable animal is put to sleep in our community.
