Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) issued a statement following the House's passage of a resolution holding U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in Contempt of Congress for non-compliance with a subpoena from the Committee on the Judiciary, H. Res. 1292.

“Attorney General Garland’s failure to provide Congress with the audio recordings from Special Counsel Robert Hur’s interview with President Biden regarding his unlawful handling of classified documents is just another example of why the American people have lost confidence in our justice system," stated Congressman Baird. "The American people deserve an attorney general and Department of Justice that is committed to upholding the Constitution and obeying the rule of law."

Baird further commented, “Unfortunately, Attorney General Garland removed the blindfold from Lady Justice in order to tip the scales in President Biden’s favor. This is why he deserved to be only the third attorney general in U.S. history to be held in Contempt of Congress.”
