Today, Senator-elect Jim Banks of Indiana met with Pete Hegseth, who has been nominated by President Donald Trump for the position of Secretary of Defense. Following their meeting, Banks issued a statement expressing his support for Hegseth.
Banks described Hegseth as "a decorated veteran and a patriot who will always put America first." He emphasized that both he and Hegseth share a focus on removing "wokeness" from the military and enhancing the lethality of the Department of Defense. According to Banks, Hegseth is committed to not backing down from challenges posed by media, bureaucracy, or foreign adversaries such as China, Iran, and Russia. Banks expressed confidence in Hegseth's ability to strengthen America's defense posture.
