Congressman Jim Baird of Indiana has expressed his support for U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and the Trump Administration's plan to tackle rising egg prices and avian flu outbreaks. This plan was detailed by Secretary Rollins in the Wall Street Journal.
Baird highlighted the impact of avian flu on farmers and poultry producers nationwide, particularly egg producers in Indiana. He noted that the disease has led to significant losses of hens and increased egg prices. Baird criticized the previous administration's handling of the situation, stating, "Unfortunately, the Biden Administration mismanaged the response to avian flu and failed to adequately address the outbreaks and skyrocketing egg prices."
He commended Secretary Rollins and the U.S. Department of Agriculture for their proposed investment of up to one billion dollars aimed at addressing these issues. The strategy includes measures for biosecurity, financial relief for farmers, and investment in research to combat diseases like avian flu.
Baird concluded by expressing his willingness to collaborate with Secretary Rollins and her team: "I applaud Secretary Rollins and the Trump Administration for their timely response to this critical issue, and I look forward to working with them to deliver on our promise to lower prices and ensure farmers in Indiana can thrive."
