Rep. Marlin Stutzman, a U.S. Congressman from Indiana, used his social media platform on October 9, 2025, to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on Americans.

In a post made at 13:42 UTC, Stutzman wrote: "Every day that is good for Democrats is bad for America.

- Troops are likely not going to be paid on time.

- Airports are in shambles.

- Indiana GDP has declined by $270 MILLION!

…and it’s only day 9.

I don’t know why today is better for you Chuck, but Americans are hurting."

Later that afternoon at 16:44 UTC, he posted: "Out in the heartland, there’s no such thing as a “non-essential” worker.

Pass the CR and reopen the government so we can continue to do our job — delivering a budget that lets hardworking Americans keep more of what they earn."

By evening at 22:44 UTC, Stutzman addressed Senate actions regarding the shutdown: "The Senate needs to end this shutdown.

Democrats are holding the government hostage over Obamacare subsidies that help insurers, not patients."

The remarks come amid an extended federal government shutdown in October 2025. Continuing resolutions (CRs) are temporary funding measures often used by Congress to prevent lapses in government operations during budget negotiations. During past shutdowns, many federal employees have been furloughed or worked without pay until appropriations bills were passed and signed into law. The reference to "Obamacare subsidies" pertains to provisions under the Affordable Care Act designed to make health insurance more affordable for individuals; these subsidies have been points of contention in previous legislative standoffs between parties.
