Later that day, Stutzman addressed the ongoing government shutdown, writing: "The American people have suffered long enough. Let’s get the job done and reopen the government so we can get back to business."

On November 13, he followed up with a statement about the resolution of the shutdown: "Finally, after 43 days of unnecessary American suffering, the government will be reopened by Republicans and President Donald Trump. This should have never happened. Democrats kept the government closed for the longest period in history, for what? A vote they know will fail in"
