Late Mastodon Run Pushes Purdue Fort Wayne Past SIUE 81-76

Five Mastodons scored in double-figures in Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball's 81-76 win over SIUE on Saturday (Nov. 12).
 
The Mastodons made their first five baskets with three coming from long range. Damian Chong Qui had four assists in the opening four minutes.
 
At the 14-minute mark, JoJo Peterson got a steal and fed Eric Mulder on a breakaway dunk. A few minutes later, Jarred Godfrey sent a pass to Bobby Planutis who knocked in a deep two-pointer to go up eight. The 'Dons went on a 6-1 run to finish the half and take an 11-point lead into the locker room.
 
When SIUE cut the lead to three, Godfrey got out on the break on a pass from Quinton Morton-Robertson to halt the Cougar run. SIUE eventually tied the game at 62 near the 6-minute mark.
 
The Cougars took the lead late in the contest, but Chong Qui banked in a 3-pointer to tie it at 72.  After a Godfrey miss, Planutis came streaking in to grab the offensive board and got the put-back to go. This gave the Mastodons a two-point lead. Ra Kpedi sank a pair of free throws two possessions later to make it a two-possession game. Chong Qui put the game on ice with four free throws.
 
Deonte Billups and Chong Qui led Mastodon scorers with 18 points each. Godfrey (17), Planutis (13) and Kpedi (10) were also in double-digits. Godfrey and Kpedi had nine rebounds apiece. Chong Qui finished with six assists.
 
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 1-1 while SIUE falls to 1-1 The Mastodons are at home again on Monday when they welcome Manchester to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
