Purdue Fort Wayne Softball Drops a Pair at UNCW Event

The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team dropped a pair of non-league games on Friday (Feb. 10) at the UNCW Home Weekend #1. The Mastodons fell to UNCW 7-0 and East Carolina 3-0.

GAME 1 - Purdue Fort Wayne 0, UNCW 7

The Mastodons dropped the morning game to UNCW after the home team scored four in the opening frame. The Seahawks scored on a sacrifice bunt, a home run, and a fielder's choice.

UNCW expanded its lead with a solo home run in the fourth and a two-RBI single in the sixth.

Purdue Fort Wayne broke up the no-hitter in the sixth inning when Bailey Manos had a single to the shortstop. Sonia Solis had a double in the top of the seventh, but she was stranded there.

Kennedy Peckinpaugh took the loss for Purdue Fort Wayne. Janel Gamache got the win for UNCW. Gracie Brinkerhoff pitched 5.2 innings of relief for the 'Dons.

UNCW improved to 2-1.

GAME 2 - Purdue Fort Wayne 0, East Carolina 3

Purdue Fort Wayne was even with East Carolina in game two, apart from the opening 3-0 inning.

The Pirates put a runner in scoring position after two plate appearances, then scored on a double and a groundout. From that moment on, Alyson Quinlan had a good performance from the circle, throwing for the rest of the game with no runs and two strikeouts. She finished with three runs to her name to take the loss. Addy Bullis for East Carolina took the win in seven innings pitched.

The Mastodons had back-to-back innings with two runners on in the third and fourth. In the third, Quinlan singled to right field, then Manos reached on a fielder's choice and Taylor Warne reached on a fielding error. In the fourth, Brooke Wintlend drew a walk and Brayden Lickey singled to left field.
